Job Description

The Advanced Process Engineer works closely with divisional, customer, and supplier staff specialists to ensure the successful development and implementation of new product launches, engineering changes, continuous improvement initiatives, and projects which affect die tooling and assembly processes. 

Responsible for the follow-up of mechanical systems designs for a variety of applications including:  welders, robots and assembly, conveyor and transfer systems.   Using project management skills and quality core tools (CPMP, APQP, PPAP), tracks, records, and reports on project progress and identifies, investigates, and develops solutions for problems encountered during the project, in order to meet all critical deadlines.

Responsible for all aspects of the project including cost estimating and processing, raw material integration, establishing equipment process parameters and working with staff specialists to launch product from raw material to finished packaging, from its inception through PPAP, production and beyond.

Works in an office environment but may be exposed to elements such as temperature and noise during time spent in the plant or at customer or supplier facilities.  Overtime may be required to meet project/program deadlines.

Required Skills/Experience:

  • Bachelor Degree in Engineering with Project Management experience.
  • Must have a minimum 5 years of experience in small to large automotive tooling and welding manufacturing processes.
  • Must have a minimum 8 years of experience managing projects related to assembly automated equipment.
  • Proven leadership experience; excellent problem-solving ability; organizational and planning abilities; negotiation skills; and mechanical/technical abilities.
  • Must have knowledge of and experience with quality core tools (APQP, FMEA, MSA, SPC, PPAP).
  • Must have experience with GD&T.
  • Must have experience with BOM management.
  • Must have experience with developing equipment layouts.
  • Must have experience with lean concepts.
  • Must have experience with setting up cycle time charts and work instructions.
  • Must have experience with conducting time studies.
  • Must know statistical tools to validate process and dimensional capability.
  • Must possess strong interpersonal, communication, problem solving, organizational, project and time management skills.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Must be proficient in 2D / 3D CAD software platforms (NX, Solidworks, Draftsight).
  • Previous die/part processing and cost estimating a definite asset.
