Job Description

Overview of Responsibilities: Plans and directs MSGCU’s talent development function, including team member and leadership development. Leads direct reports in assessing organizational development needs ensuring delivery of dynamic and exceptional talent development experiences through multiple delivery channels. Provides support for all team members of the organization in alignment with MSGCU’s strategic objectives and desired future state.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintains and applies advanced knowledge of business and the marketplace to advance MSGCU’s position. Assists in creating and shaping long-range, strategically aligned talent development goals by analyzing industry trends, and interpreting and applying an understanding of relevant environmental, regulatory, financial, and other factors.
  • Serves as MSGCU’s subject matter expert on team member and leadership development regarding competencies, needs assessment, analysis, and best practices for talent development. Oversees the development, selection, and enhancement of training and development opportunities to effectively meet the needs of the organization.
  • Balances the interest of multiple stakeholders by anticipating and understanding requirements, expectations, and needs. Collaborates effectively with internal and external stakeholders to meet shared objectives, improve relationships, develop teamwork, and deliver high quality service. Works closely with MSGCU’s management team to identify areas to improve the team member training and development experience. Exhibits interpersonal savvy by relating openly and comfortably with diverse groups of people.
  • Enables team’s success by providing clear direction and setting clear expectations regarding planning, management, achievement of goals, and desired team member experience. Establishes appropriate controls related to empowerment to enable delegation of responsibility. Holds self and others accountable, executing at a high level of effectiveness to drive results and achieve expected outcomes consistently, even under tough circumstances.
  • Plans, aligns, and prioritizes work to meet organizational goals and other commitments, anticipates and mitigates risks appropriately, and manages time and resources efficiently.
  • Ensures that annual operating budgets for and related to the talent development area is prepared within designated time frames and managed effectively.
  • Researches emerging industry trends, new technologies, concepts, and techniques regarding talent development to lead the team in architecting and facilitating innovative and exceptional experiences, including virtual and e-learning.
  • Develops talent by enabling team members to build skills to meet both their career goals and the organization’s goals through mentoring, coaching, and relevant development opportunities.
  • Builds an effective high-performing team and drives engagement by influencing others and creating an inclusive environment where team members are inspired to do their best, apply their diverse skills and perspectives to achieve common goals. Effectively communicates using various forms of communication (written, verbal, presentation), models Crucial Conversations skills, facilitates topical discussions and actively listens to accommodate the needs of different audiences. Develops relevant policies, procedures, and programs, as appropriate.
  • Gains the confidence and trust of others by modeling honesty, integrity authenticity, and behaviors that align with organizational values. Essential Preparation and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Training & Development, Organizational Development, Human Resources Business Administration, or related field, or the equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience; and
  • 5 years of related, progressively more responsible training and development experience developing and delivering engaging team member and leadership development experiences, preferably within a credit union to gain necessary background to manage area overseeing; and
  • 3 years of leadership experience.
  • Professional Certification from the Association for Talent Development (ATD), Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) or International Society for Performance Improvement (ISPI) preferred.

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated effectiveness in facilitation, coaching, teaching, and presenting in a variety of settings with all levels of audiences and on numerous topics.
  • Excellent organizational, time and resource management skills to enable and support collaboration with fellow leaders.
  • Thorough understanding of management procedures with the ability to plan department activities, develop and set objectives, and budget.
  • Demonstrated ability in coaching, consulting, and collaborating with business leaders to advance the organization’s capability and effectiveness to meet current and future goals.
  • Moderate to advanced technology skills strongly preferred, including proficiency with MS Office software, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • High level of reasoning, conceptual, and critical thinking.
  • Strong project management skills.

Working Conditions:

  • Office and branch location environment with little discomfort from noise, extreme temperature, dust, or other factors.
  • Occasionally required to travel throughout the MSGCU's service area as business needs require.
  • Exposed to potentially hazardous conditions, such as robbery. Receives detailed instructions and security procedures on an annual basis to minimize risk.
  • This work involves sitting most of the time with brief periods of walking or standing and may occasionally require lifting and/or moving up to 25 pounds.
