Concepts, plans and implements project-related system controls including, logic and software design engineering; controls equipment acquisition; and electrical installation under the direction of a Project Manager. Often works on several concurrent projects. Must also strive to maintain or improve upon the allotted project budget for the tasks they are responsible for.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop controls-related drawings for customer approval, installation and for maintenance manuals
  • Develop the required control logic to accurately and effectively operate each of the project’s various mechanical components and to interface them with system-related and customer software
  • Develop and implement PLC software from (Allen Bradley, Siemens)
  • Order and track the materials, equipment and services related to their project responsibilities
  • Direct and/or coordinate the activities of employees, vendors and subcontractors involved with execution of their assigned duties
  • Maintain the project schedule for their assigned responsibilities
  • Evaluate controls-related issues that may arise, inform the Project Manager of the issues and help formulate and execute appropriate actions to mitigate those issues
  • Keep accurate records of the budget and open issues for their assigned tasks and provide this information to the Project Manager on a timely basis
  • Help estimate / obtain the controls-related cost and schedule for estimates and for contract changes including materials, engineering and installation costs
  • Help the Project Manager prepare accurate project Change Orders
  • Travel as necessary for the purpose of project: meetings; implementation; coordination; and commissioning
  • Execute the controls and software portions of commissioning and acceptance test plans to help secure final project acceptance from the customer
  • Provide information needed to develop the controls equipment spare parts list & maintenance manuals

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or other relevant discipline with minimum 2 years’ experience as a material handling / machine tool Controls Design Engineer OR six or more years of previous, successful material handing / machine tool Controls Engineer experience
  • Formal training OR demonstrated skill and experience in the software applications required to successfully execute the responsibilities of this position
