Job Description

  • Plan and implement a program of educational activities for preschool age children based on the High/Scope Curriculum.
  • Create a clean, safe classroom environment.
  • Assess each child’s progress through a developmental screening skill checklist, parent comments, daily on-going assessment of children through anecdotal notes, scoring them and entering them into On Line COR and observation on a regular basis.
  • Write and implement daily lesson plans that meet the individual needs of children.
  • Plan, implement and update individual learning plans for each child in the classroom.
  • Plan and conduct at least two parent/teacher conferences and two home visits per child per program year.
  • Establish and maintain a two-way positive communication system with parents through such means as newsletters, flyers, phone calls and face-to-face communication.
  • Instruct children in appropriate use of classroom computer.
  • Develop curriculum activities that reflect the ethnic/multi-cultural makeup of the community.
  • Coordinate classroom volunteer programs and document appropriately.
  • Monitor and work in conjunction with other Head Start staff and volunteers to provide a well-organized classroom.
  • Provide educational experiences to include in center and other field trips.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information related to home and school environment.
  • Implement classroom nutrition, health, safety and mental health activities as outlined in the performance standards.
  • Attend staff meetings and appropriate trainings.
  • Provide activities that foster development of positive self-image and socialization.
  • Observe children on a regular basis for signs of possible delayed development, seek the assistance of specialists as needed and make any necessary accommodations.
  • Conduct classroom and education equipment inventory.
  • Maintain working relationships with families, staff and community that are accepting of differences.
  • Work cooperative as a member of team with other program and supervisory staff.
  • Maintain all required documentation i.e. home visits, parent teacher conferences, CACFP, attendance, developmental screenings and assessments and individual learning plans.
  • Comply with all licensing regulations and performance standards.
  • Promote parents as their child’s “first and best teacher” through such means as parent/child activities, child development and child management information and use of classroom observation tool.
  • Maintain appropriate adult/child interactions as scored by CLASS.
  • Assist in securing In-Kind donations for the program.
  • Maintain a positive attitude towards assigned work, clients, and staff, and a willingness to work with others.
  • Perform work in a professional manner that upholds Wayne Metro’s policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.
