JOB SUMMARY:

This position will develop strategies to drive improvements in the supply base within the specific commodities (Plastics, Rubber, Injection molding, Resins, Seals and Gaskets etc.) through development activities including supplier audits, APQP and Quality Improvement Programs etc.

The Global Advance Supplier Quality Manager (GASQM) possesses profound commodity specific knowledge (both technical and quality methodology) to provide guidance, prioritization, and commodity specific training/workshops to regional Supplier Development Engineers. The GASQM will work closely with Global Category Manager- Plastics on strategy, supplier qualification and assessments.  The GASQM will assist sourcing decisions and provide support on APQP activities on high-risk components, as well as monitoring and managing overall supplier performance; leading / supporting supplier development / improvement programs globally.

PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop supplier development strategies and improvement plans, using available supplier performance data, as well as current and future business requirements that create significant functional and measurable differences.
  • Establish / negotiate supplier quality agreements.
  • Review supplier manufacturing processes, as well as collaborate with suppliers on process improvement and value enhancement opportunities to ensure zero defect performance.
  • Create supplier audit plans, manage supplier assessments and supplier actions plans.
  • Diagnose process strengths and weaknesses to ensure zero defect performance.
  • Support strategic supply decisions (risk analyses, sourcing council, SWOT, Project planning, gap analyses, etc.).
  • Interact and communicate effectively with internal and external customers and stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with and support Engineering, Category Managers, and suppliers in support of new supplier launches.
  • Drive continuous improvement within the overall supply base and with any single supplier or commodity.
  • Work in category core teams with other procurement sub-functions, (e.g. Category Managers, Strategic Sourcing Managers, Program Procurement Managers), and partner with other SRI cross functional departments (Engineering, Program Management, Manufacturing, etc.).
  • Monitor and communicate supplier performance results, manage the supplier corrective action process (internal and external), and support supplier component reviews and new component launches (APQP + Safe Launch Programs).
  • Improve regional SD team members’ technical knowledge in the Plastics commodities.
  • Involved with engineering design.
  • Project sourcing activities – including interaction with plastics suppliers.
  • Process audit (VDA6.3) at suppliers in North America
  • Travel to suppliers for all escalations
  • Face to Face meeting with suppliers at Stoneridge location (Novi, Michigan) for sourcing, issue resolution, capacity etc. topics.
  • Collaborate and support engineering, commodity leaders and suppliers in support of design changes, develop strategy, and new launches.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; engineering background is a plus.
  • Minimum 5 years of industrial experience from quality, procurement, production or engineering.
  • Knowledge of plastics injection mold tooling and processes is a plus.
  • Lead auditor experience, VDA6.3 lead auditor certification is a plus.
  • Commodity specific quality requirements and supplier production process knowledge.
  • Strong analytical and PC skills are essential.
  • Global experience preferred.
  • Knowledge in quality tools and auditing.
  • Strong knowledge of IATF 16949 quality system.
  • Acknowledged quality assurance and Lead Auditor education according to ISO19011: “Latest Edition”.
  • Excellent communication skills in English (both verbal and written).
  • Strong project management skills.

LOCATION AND TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to travel between 25% and 50% domestically and internationally.
