Global Category Manager, Indirect Materials

The Global Category Manager, Indirect Materials is responsible for the development and execution of strategies leading to competitive costs, quality, delivery, and service for indirect procurement activities.  The scope and role includes commodity responsibility for Stoneridge’s global operations.  Specific areas of Commodity focus including: 1) Capital investment; 2) Operating and Industrial Supplies; 3) Services.


Define and execute global commodity strategies for indirect materials and services

  • Define Stoneridge’s current and future global needs for specific commodity groupings (e.g. capital equipment)
  • Evaluate nature of market supply along with process and technology trends
  • Identify opportunities to commonize processes, materials and equipment globally
  • Define and maintain a supplier strategy including managing the relationships
  • Execute strategic supplier agreements
  • Interact with internal stakeholders to drive standardization 

Lead sourcing activities globally

  • Interface with operations teams responsible for defining requirements and delivering a sourcing solution that meets or exceeds expectations
  • Lead RFQ and supplier selection activities
  • Negotiate lowest total cost with suppliers
  • Support execution and change management throughout the project
  • Monitor supplier performance for quality, delivery, cost, responsiveness, financial stability, etc.

Achieve lower cost and mitigate risks

  • Develop methods to incorporate best material, equipment and/or service selections into Stoneridge operations
  • Define and execute projects leading to lower material, equipment and/or service costs
  • Execute contracts to ensure risk management for inventory, warranty, delivery and quality
  • Lead cross functional teams and engage key stakeholders to deliver cost savings projects


  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, or related field; MBA preferred
  • Ten years of experience in automotive manufacturing
  • Experience working with indirect material commodities
  • Ability to create and deliver clear, persuasive presentations
  • Demonstrated executive disposition along with ability to negotiate at Senior levels
  • Experience working in global project team
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with ability to interact positively with all levels in the organization
  • Complex negotiation skills and experience
  • Working knowledge of APQP, PPAP, TS16949
  • Ability to work independently as well as within a team
