Provide support to the Finance Department by analyzing, performing and monitoring accounting transactions, preparing monthly financial statements and other required financial reports, assisting with the development and management of the budget, and supporting both internal and year-end audit processes, as well as processing the district’s bi-weekly payroll. This position requires an organized professional with the ability to execute at a high level with independence, thoroughness and accuracy. This position reports to the Director of Finance and works closely with the Payroll/Benefits Coordinator, Accounts Payable Secretary, HR Secretary, and Federal Programs

Financial Specialist.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting.
  • Experience with K-12 public school fund accounting preferred.
  • Accounts payable and payroll experience a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite required.
  • Experience with WCRESA SMART software preferred.
  • Ability to work independently, solve problems, and make good decisions in accordance with established policies and procedures required.
  • Ability to communicate cooperatively and effectively with staff and external entities required.
  • Ability to exercise discretion regarding confidential information required.
  • Ability to manage busy workload, multiple projects and meet deadlines required.


  • Process financial transactions of the district including receipts, disbursements, journal entries, general ledger maintenance and reconciliations.
  • Prepare and record bank deposits.
  • Perform month end closing activities, reconcile liability accounts monthly, and prepare monthly financial statements.
  • Reconcile bank accounts monthly.
  • Assist in preparation and monitoring of annual budgets and periodic budget amendments.
  • Record and reconcile cash transactions related to student activity accounts.
  • Serve as backup for the accounts payable function.
  • Assist with preparing various financial reports as requested by the Director of Finance including but not limited to: Quarterly Medicaid cost reports, annual FID, SE4094, SE4096.
  • Perform year end closing activities and post accrual journal entries.
  • Prepare schedules, gather information and assist auditors as needed.
  • Process bi-weekly payroll including related payroll taxes and liabilities. Receive, calculate and verify payroll sheets, ensure all employees are paid correctly and on time.
  • Add new employees and update system with changes to current employees.
  • Assist with: ORS (Office of Retirement Services) reporting, ACA (Affordable Healthcare) maintenance & reporting, preparing quarterly 941as well as state & local tax reporting, updating and posting employee benefits, W2 and year end payroll processing, workers comp, and unemployment, other payroll & benefits related tasks as assigned.
  • Must attend WCRESA workshops related to finance and payroll.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Finance.
