Summary:

The Product Development Engineer manages the testing of new products to ensure that they meet the certification requirements, program specifications, and safety requirements. The Product Development Engineer interfaces with certification committees and governing bodies to develop testing plans for new products, the engineer is then responsible for coordinating and overseeing validation testing, compiling of test reports and ensuring results meet certification requirements.

In addition to roles mentioned above the Product Development Engineer will be required to design and execute tests during the development of products. Tasks include designing and manufacturing test apparatuses, developing test procedures, performing on-vessel testing, documenting and independently completing tear down and assembly of products being testing, and developing and managing the DVP and DFMEA documents.

Essential Job Functions (Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities):

  • Ability to interface with domestic and international governing bodies
  • Coordinate with certified laboratories to complete required testing, verify results, and compile reports
  • Design, manufacture, and operate in-house test apparatuses to validate products during various stages of development
  • Utilizing relevant software to conceptualize new ideas.
  • Develop DVP and DFMEA documents
  • Control and manage the execution of DVP documents
  • Develop the necessary prototypes utilizing rapid manufacturing and fabrication processes.
  • Product testing throughout the product design phase to troubleshoot any potential problems.
  • Fine-tune and adjust the product design to ensure the approved design is the best for market, budgetary and environmental concerns.
  • Generate and present reports using analysis and test results.
  • Create documentation during each stage of the development and production process.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Travel 25-30%
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • Strong understanding of powertrain applications
  • High energy and a passion for boating & being out on the water
  • Verifiable SolidWorks capabilities, Certification highly desirable
  • Demonstrated innovative spirit
  • Mechanical aptitude/capability
  • Excellent communication skills with a team player mentality
  • Strong hands-on assembly skills
  • Hands-on boating experience and an understanding of boat rigging
  • Proficient with computers and Microsoft applications
  • Data acquisition and post processing experience
  • Able to work well on a team and independently
