Job Description

Summary:

The CXT Training and Technical Writer will be responsible for creating comprehensive and engaging training materials, technical documentation, and user guides for our range of marine engines and propulsion systems. The CXT Training and Technical Writer will collaborate closely with engineering, product management, and customer support teams to ensure that our customers and partners have access to accurate and easily understandable information. The CXT Training and Technical Writer will be the face of the training program, scheduling, implementing and hosting all required marine training.

Essential Job Functions (Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities):

  • Develop high-quality training materials, including online courses, user manuals, instructional videos, and presentations, that effectively communicate technical concepts to various audiences, such as customers, technicians, and internal teams.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to gather technical information and ensure the accuracy and completeness of the content.
  • Lead the Ilmor training program, scheduling, implementing and hosting all required marine training.
  • Translate complex technical information into clear, concise, and user-friendly documentation that meets industry standards.
  • Design and maintain a knowledge base and documentation repository to ensure easy access to relevant information for internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Work closely with the engineering team to understand product features, functionality, and specifications to accurately convey technical details to non-technical audiences.
  • Conduct thorough research to stay updated on industry trends, best practices, and new technologies to enhance the quality of documentation.
  • Participate in product development and testing phases to gain hands-on experience and ensure documentation reflects the latest product updates.
  • Collaborate with the marketing team to assist in creating promotional materials, product brochures, and technical marketing content.
  • Provide ongoing support to customer service and technical support teams by updating documentation based on customer feedback and evolving product features.
  • Maintain a keen focus on usability and user experience, continuously improving the clarity and effectiveness of all written materials.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in English, Technical Communication, Engineering, or a related field. Relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Proven experience as a technical writer, preferably in the marine, automotive, or engineering industries.
  • Strong proficiency in writing, editing, and proofreading technical content with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with documentation tools such as Adobe FrameMaker, Madcap Flare, or similar software.
  • Comfortable with public speaking with groups up to 400 people
  • Ability to grasp complex technical concepts and translate them into easily understandable content.
  • Experience creating multimedia content, such as videos and interactive tutorials, is a plus.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Self-motivated, organized, and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Understanding of marine engines, propulsion systems, and related technologies is highly desirable.
  • Basic knowledge of graphic design principles and tools is an advantage.

Physical Requirements/Work Environment

  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move objects weighing up to 30 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move heavier items. This job requires specific vision abilities, including close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to alternate between sitting and standing positions. Additionally, they frequently use their hands and fingers to handle objects, operate tools or controls, and maintain balance while climbing or performing tasks. The employee may occasionally need to walk, reach with hands and arms, kneel, crouch, crawl, and communicate orally.
