Job Summary
Under limited supervision, is responsible for inventory of parts and equipment at the Oakland County Garage. Orders and issues parts to mechanics for use in repairs and maintenance of county vehicles. Transports vehicles to and from dealers for more complex repair and warranty work. In the absence of garage clerical staff, performs duties including posting repair orders, assigning loaner vehicles, assisting the public and answering phones. Oversees the daily tasks of Oakland County Jail trustees assigned to do building and vehicle clean up at the Garage. Coordinates vehicle parking at the Garage. Prepares vehicles and to be sold at County auction including clean up, numbering and inventory. Organizes and maintains records of scrap metal and tires for sale. Conducts periodic inventory of parts. Coordinates the scheduling and installation of specialized equipment in vehicles. Researches equipment to be used for custom installations. Utilizes current county-wide and/or department specific software to complete assignments.
Minimum Qualifications

1. Be a high school graduate or have a certificate of successful completion of the General Educational Development Test.
2. Have at least three (3) years of full-time work experience in motor vehicle servicing and repair work.
3. Possess a valid motor vehicle or chauffeur’s license.
4. Pass the complete examination, including the employment medical, required for this classification.
5. Successfully complete the six month probationary period.
