Job Description

Summary:

The Senior Principal Architect (Data) is a new role within the Data and Analytics organization that will have the opportunity to define and build the data architecture practice for the enterprise. He or she acts as a consultant seeking to optimize the overall process the organization follows from data ingestion to final product.

It will provide overall direction, guidance, definition and facilitation for the development of architecture required to meet product strategies and goals including our journey to the cloud. The role will identify, support, and analyze business drivers, modern data platforms, technology strategies, and current technology environment, and is adept at using large data sets to find opportunities for product and process optimization and using models to test the effectiveness of different courses of action. They must have strong experience using a variety of data management tools, evaluating and implementing models, using/creating algorithms and creating/leading POCs. They must have a proven ability to drive business results with their data-based insights. They must be comfortable working with a wide range of stakeholders and functional teams. The right candidate will have a passion for discovering solutions and working with stakeholders to improve business outcomes.

RESPONSIBILITIES/TASKS:

  • Accountable for adhering to corporate architecture standards, ensuring technology standards and best practices are maintained across the organization and contributing to corporate architecture strategy-setting.
  • Work with stakeholders throughout the organization to identify opportunities for leveraging company data to drive business solutions.
  • Participate and engage in Scaled Agile Framework
  • Assess the effectiveness and accuracy of new data sources and data gathering techniques.
  • Evaluate data models and algorithms to apply to data sets.
  • Coordinate with different functional teams to implement models and monitor outcomes.
  • Develop processes and tools to monitor and analyze model performance and data accuracy.
  • Leads the development of holistic blueprints in coordination with the domain architects. Coordinates with other Plans and strategic partners, identifying opportunities for shared solutions.
  • Leads and coordinates the domain technical and business discussions relative to future architecture direction.
  • Guides data strategy development and ensure alignment with architectural strategy and business goals.
  • Analyzes, designs, and develops a roadmap and implementation plan based upon a current vs. future state in a cohesive architecture viewpoint.
  • Defines principles that guide technology decisions and the relationship between enterprise business context (industry and market trends) and specified technology leads in the evaluation, selection and implementation of technology solutions including providing detailed analysis of pros and cons and build vs buy options.
  • Maintains architectural documentation including capability mappings, reference architectures, current state diagrams, future state diagrams, data flows from organization and acquisition points to consumption, catalog of data assets and characteristics.
  • Continually works to enhance breadth and depth of knowledge and experience.  Benchmarks technology strategies and architectures.  Monitors and anticipates trends and investigates organizational objectives and needs.  Prepares bench marking reports and presentations.
  • Promotes implementation of new technology, solutions and methods to improve business processes, efficiency, effectiveness and value delivered to customers.
  • Develops actual working solutions or prototypes based on their own designs and resolves any issues that arise.
  • Stays updated on current technology trends and industry best practices.
  • Provides technical leadership and works effectively with different teams including Product Managers, Project Managers, and Engineers.

  • Works with other leads in a project setting to define and execute a software architecture that is sustainable, flexible and scalable
  • Leads key initiative design, highly capable to complete tasks both independently with minimal guidance and leading a team technically

EDUCATION OR EQUIVALENT EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related area required.  Master’s degree in Data Science or other quantitative field is preferred. Continuous learning, as defined by the Company’s learning philosophy, is required.  

EXPERIENCE:

Ten years of progressive responsibility in an IT environment with demonstrated technical knowledge which provides the necessary skills, knowledge and abilities. Three years relevant experience with enterprise wide integration architecture required. One year of leadership experience required.

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES (SKA) REQUIRED: 

  1. Hands on and visionary
  2. Strong problem solving skills with an emphasis on data product development
  3. Strong knowledge of using statistical computer languages (R, Python, SLQ, etc.) to manipulate data and draw insights from large data sets.
  4. Experience working with and creating data architectures.
  5. Strong knowledge of a variety of machine learning techniques (clustering, decision tree learning, artificial neural networks, etc.) and their real-world advantages/drawbacks.
  6. Strong knowledge of advanced statistical techniques and concepts (regression, properties of distributions, statistical tests and proper usage, etc.) and experience with applications.
  7. Proficiency with data mining, mathematics, and statistical analysis
  8. Experience with modern data stack including extraction/load, transform, orchestration, cloud data platforms, and distribution.
  9. Strong communication and written skills. Ability to work out differences of opinions and publish scalable and quality system design based on specification.
  10. Strong knowledge of structure and unstructured data systems
  11. Strong knowledge of enterprise distributed data processing systems 
  12. Ability to diagram and document designs and requirements
  13. Strong verbal and written communication skills with presentation experience.
  14. Ability to work as a collaborative member of a team while also being comfortable in leading a work initiative when directed to do so.
  15. Ability to set strategic architectural direction in integration technologies.
  16. Ability to breakdown requirements into project estimates and to determine timelines and dependencies with the other domains/ projects.
  17. Ability to lead small work teams with experience in one or more project management tools.
  18. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  19. Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  20. Flexibility to adapt readily to changing business needs.

Work is performed both in the office and in the field with minimal hazards.

Pay Range

Actual compensation decision relies on the consideration of internal equity, candidate’s skills and professional experience, geographic location, market and other potential factors. It is not standard practice for an offer to be at or near the top of the range, and therefore a reasonable estimate for this role is between $77,700 and $203,700.
