The Role

JOB SUMMARY:

The Lead Manufacturing Controls Engineer works in a fast paced, dynamic environment where they are responsible for technical leadership within the Operations team when maintaining, troubleshooting, and implementing improvements on plant equipment. This role requires someone who thrives in an uncertain environment that requires an ability to synthesize information rapidly and create solutions while also having the ability to see how these decisions will influence attainment of critical objectives.  This is primarily a project driven role entirely located at our New Hudson facility where the Lead Controls Engineer will be asked to work in collaborative groups to develop our manufacturing processes and machines.  Outside of the day to day project work, the Lead Manufacturing Controls Engineer will have the opportunity to build a team from the ground up, defining the controls standards and hiring people with the skills required to execute Atlas Copco’s ambitious long-term goals.

What we expect of you? 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Provide technical assistance on troubleshooting equipment both electrically and mechanically.
  • Install, set-up, and program various types of electrical devices; including vision systems, robotics, automated material handling systems, and IOT/Industry 4.0 technology.
  • Guide a team of maintenance technicians and engineers as they work to support equipment and design the next generation of machines
  • Basic Control Panel design
    • Discrete/Analog IO, VFD control, 120VAC/24 DC power control
  • Proficient with Siemens PLC programming
    • Function Block, Ladder Logic, Structured text and Sequential flow chart
  • Provide manufacturing support, engage in problem solving, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Responsible for developing and controlling machine set-up instruction related to electrical controls.
  • Update electrical prints as needed.
  • Other duties as required.

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

 

  • Proficient in Siemens S7 PLC logic and project development (Specific knowledge of S7 300 a plus)
  • Familiarity with common plant communication protocols such as Profibus, Profinet, Ethernet/IP
  • 2+ years’ experience leading projects and/or small teams
  • Strong, hands-on electrical/mechanical experience.
  • Ability to use and implement scripting languages and batch files
  • Good communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
  • Adaptable and willingness to learn and develop.
  • Able to operate effectively and efficiently with minimum supervision.

 

EDUCATION OR QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering preferred, or equivalent experience required.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a plant floor role using PLC programming/troubleshooting
