We are looking for a Procurement Technical Manager to join our Coatings team in Southfield, MI.

BASF’s Coatings division is a global expert in the development, production and marketing of innovative and sustainable automotive OEM and refinish coatings, decorative paints as well as applied surface treatments for metal, plastic and glass substrates in a wide range of industries. This portfolio is supplemented by "Beyond Paint Solutions", which enable new applications with innovative surfaces.

Procurement Technical Managers (PTM) play a crucial role in approving materials, services, and equipment sourcing, effectively bridging the gap between internal approvals and our suppliers.  As PTM, you will:

  • Conduct technical evaluations between our requirements and suppliers' offers, challenging to achieve the best technical offer (for packaging and indirect)
  • Lead projects for the introduction of new items, such as materials, equipment, or packaging, fostering a competitive environment for negotiators and general buyers

  • Bridging technical, commercial opportunities and risks to reduce total cost of ownership (TCO) and drive portfolio innovation
  • Partnering directly with suppliers to co-create cost-effective technical improvements in design, materials, and processes
  • Staying ahead of industry trends and representing the company at trade shows and innovation events, focusing on find sustainable solutions
  • Identifying and mitigating risks associated with procurement activities, including assessing supplier risks and developing contingency plans
  • Troubleshooting technical issues, following up on Non-Conformance Materials (NCMs), and managing change (MOC) initiatives
  • Collaborating with the entire procurement team and internal partners on projects with value chain know-how

If you have...

  • A heart for technical requirements combined with project management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at the same time 
  • Solid knowledge in sourcing markets related to packaging and indirect categories or similar experiences
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Decision-making ability as well as flexibility to adapt quickly to changes
  • Strong communication skills in English and Spanish (preferably)
  • Self-motivated and outstanding team spirit to develop our procurement team into the next level
  • High intercultural competence
