Bindery Operator

Department: Production

Reports To: Bindery Supervisor / Production Manager

Position Summary

The Bindery Operator is responsible for operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting bindery equipment, including the bookmaker, cutter, and folder. This role plays a critical part in ensuring that printed materials are finished to quality standards and production timelines are met.

Key Responsibilities

· Set up, operate, and maintain bindery equipment including bookmaker for collating, stitching, and trimming; paper cutter for precision cutting according to job specifications; folding machines for parallel and right-angle folding tasks.

· Review and interpret job tickets to verify job specifications before starting any task.

· Perform quality checks throughout each run and make adjustments as needed to maintain product consistency.

· Complete assigned work within designated timeframes, prioritizing tasks based on production schedules.

· Monitor equipment performance, perform basic preventative maintenance, and report mechanical issues to the supervisor or maintenance personnel immediately.

· Ensure all finished products meet company quality standards before passing to the next department or packaging.

· Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area at all times in compliance with company safety policies.

· Communicate effectively with supervisors, press operators, and coworkers to support production flow and resolve issues quickly.

· Follow all standard operating procedures and contribute to ongoing process improvement efforts.

Job Requirements

· Proven ability to operate and maintain bindery equipment, including bookmaker, cutter, and folder.

· Basic mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.

· Understanding of paper handling, folding principles, and finishing techniques.

· Ability to read and interpret work orders, job tickets, and measurements with precision.

· Strong attention to detail with a focus on quality and accuracy.

· Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and stand, bend, and move for extended periods.

· Adherence to safety protocols and PPE requirements.

Performance Expectations

· Meet or exceed daily and weekly production targets.

· Complete equipment setups within standard setup time benchmarks.

· Maintain equipment in proper working order and report issues promptly.

· Demonstrate a proactive attitude and willingness to learn new equipment and procedures.

· Support continuous improvement initiatives and cross-train as needed.
