Job Title: HVAC Technician

Department: Maintenance / Service & Installation

Reports To: Service / Installation Manager

Job Summary

The HVAC Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems in residential, commercial, or industrial settings. The technician ensures systems operate efficiently, safely, and in compliance with all relevant codes and standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install new HVAC systems including furnaces, air conditioners, heat pumps, ventilation systems, and refrigeration units
  • Inspect and test HVAC systems to ensure proper operation
  • Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults
  • Repair or replace defective components (compressors, motors, thermostats, wiring, etc.)
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance
  • Read and interpret blueprints and technical diagrams
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and building codes
  • Maintain accurate service records and documentation
  • Provide excellent customer service and explain system issues and solutions to clients

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • HVAC certification or diploma from a technical/trade school
  • Valid HVAC license (as required by state/province)
  • EPA Section 608 Certification (for handling refrigerants)
  • Proven experience as an HVAC technician (preferred 1–3+ years)
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, electrical systems, and refrigeration

Work Environment

  • May require overtime, weekends, or on-call shifts
  • Physical demands include lifting, climbing ladders, and prolonged standing
