Heavy Equipment Operator

$24.00 - $30.00 hourly

Job Description

The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for operating heavy machinery in a safe, efficient, and productive manner in support of earthmoving, remediation, and site development projects. This role requires strict adherence to safety standards, regulatory requirements, and company procedures while maintaining high quality workmanship.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate heavy equipment used in earthmoving and site operations is most commonly used on this project: large hydraulic excavator - Komatsu PC490, PC360
  • Perform excavation, grading and shaping in river and stream restoration
  • Load, transport, and unload soil, debris, sand, gravel, and waste materials to designated locations in accordance with project specifications
  • Conduct work and operate equipment in wet environments, water, mud and uneven terrain and environmental conditions
  • Support dust control, dirt compaction, dewatering, sediment stabilization, and dredging operations as required
  • Coordinate tasks using handheld radios and maintain effective communication with supervisors and team members
  • Read and interpret maps, site plans, blueprints, technical manuals, and project specifications
  • Maintain accurate daily logs, inspection reports, and equipment documentation
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance and complete pre and post trip equipment inspections
  • Serve as a mentor when needed
  • Ensure compliance with company safety policies, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, and Hazardous Materials Transportation Regulations
  • Work flexible hours including evenings and weekends as needed; travel to job sites as required
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support operational objectives

Knowledge and Skill Requirements

  • Strong working knowledge of heavy equipment operation and job site safety protocols
  • Familiarity with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations and Hazardous Materials Transportation Regulations
  • Experience with hydraulic and mechanical dredging, dewatering, sediment stabilization, and waste transportation
  • Ability to operate equipment safely in challenging terrain and environmental conditions
  • Clean driving record acceptable to the company’s insurance carrier

Education and Experience

  • 5 to 7 years of experience operating heavy equipment in remediation, construction, or earthmoving projects
  • Experience in projects involving remedial actions preferred
