Job Description

Full-Time |

Starting Pay

Starting at $34 per hour, potentially higher pay based on experience and mechanical aptitude.

Lead the Shift. Develop the Team. Keep Production Moving.

At Systematic Manufacturing Inc. (SMI), we're looking for a hands-on leader who can bridge the gap between management and the shop floor. This isn't a position for someone who wants to sit behind a desk all night. It's for a machinist who enjoys helping others succeed, solving problems, and setting the tone for the shift.

As our CNC Machinist Team Lead, you'll serve as the primary technical resource and leader for the shift. You'll help keep work flowing, support operators and setup personnel, troubleshoot manufacturing issues, and ensure production goals are met safely and efficiently.

The ideal candidate has a strong machining background across both CNC mills and lathes, understands the realities of a production environment, and takes pride in helping others improve.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Lead and support the second shift machining team to exceed production goals

  • Coordinate daily priorities to ensure jobs move through the shop efficiently

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for production-related issues during the shift

  • Assist operators and machinists with setups, troubleshooting, and process improvements

  • Help maintain production schedules and communicate issues that could impact delivery

  • Verifying jobs are being run according to prints, work instructions, and quality requirements

  • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement

  • Train and mentor operators and machinists as they develop their skills

  • Work closely with engineering, quality, and leadership to resolve manufacturing challenges

  • Support machine utilization and help identify opportunities to improve efficiency

  • Develop processes and machine code for new opportunities

Minimum Qualifications

  • 5+ years of CNC machining experience

  • Strong working knowledge of both CNC mills and lathes

  • Experience performing machine setups and troubleshooting production issues

  • Ability to read blueprints and interpret GD&T

  • Strong understanding of precision measuring equipment and inspection methods

  • CNC programming (G-Code and CAM) knowledge and the ability to write/edit programs when required

  • Excellent organizational, communication, and planning skills

  • Proven ability to lead by example and earn the respect of a team

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior leadership, lead, trainer, or mentoring experience

  • Experience with multi-axis CNC equipment

  • Familiarity with aerospace, defense, or precision manufacturing environments

  • Understanding of Swiss machining operations

  • Experience working with ERP or manufacturing scheduling systems

  • Basic understanding of Wire EDM operations and programming

  • Ability to identify process improvements and support continuous improvement initiatives

The Type of Person Who Thrives Here

  • Leads through actions, not titles

  • Stays calm when things don't go according to plan

  • Naturally develops and supports others

  • Takes ownership instead of assigning blame

  • Communicates clearly and professionally

  • Understands that production, quality, and people all matter

What Success Looks Like

Success in this role isn't measured by how many machines you personally run. It's measured by how effectively you help the entire shift succeed.

The right person will:

  • Keep jobs moving

  • Help develop team members

  • Improve communication between shifts

  • Reduce downtime

  • Support quality

  • Create an environment where people know what's expected and have the tools to succeed

Why Join SMI?

At SMI, you'll have the opportunity to make a direct impact on the success of the company. We value practical problem solvers, strong communicators, and leaders who are willing to roll up their sleeves and help the team win.
