CNC Machinist – 2nd Shift

$18.00 - $28.00 hourly

Job Description

Work Independently. Solve Problems. Own the Shift.

Some machinists enjoy the pace of second shift.

Fewer interruptions.

Fewer meetings.

More time spent doing what they enjoy—making quality parts.

If you're the kind of machinist who doesn't need someone looking over your shoulder, who takes ownership of your work, and who enjoys figuring things out when challenges arise, we'd like to meet you.

At Systematic Manufacturing Inc. (SMI), our second shift is trusted with keeping production moving, maintaining quality, and preparing first shift for success the next morning.

We're looking for someone who takes pride in being the person others can count on when the lights are a little dimmer and the shop gets quieter.

What You'll Do

Second shift is built on trust.

You'll have the opportunity to work independently while playing an important role in keeping customer commitments and production schedules on track.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Setting up and operating CNC mills and/or lathes.
  • Reading and interpreting blueprints, work instructions, and specifications.
  • Performing first-piece, in-process, and final inspections.
  • Verifying part quality using precision measuring equipment.
  • Making tool offsets and minor program adjustments as needed.
  • Troubleshooting machining, tooling, and setup issues.
  • Maintaining accurate production and inspection records.
  • Working with the Team Lead and first shift to ensure smooth communication between shifts.
  • Helping maintain a clean, organized, and efficient work environment.

The Kind of Machinist Who Thrives Here

You don't wait to be told what needs to be done.

You see the problem and go to work solving it.

You take pride in making quality parts, not because someone is watching—but because that's how you've always approached your craft.

You understand that what you leave behind at the end of the night affects the entire shop the next morning.

You believe good communication, consistency, and accountability matter just as much as spindle time.

If that's how you approach your work, you'll fit in well here.

What You'll Bring

  • Minimum 3 years of CNC machining experience.
  • Experience setting up and operating CNC mills, CNC lathes, or both.
  • Ability to read blueprints and understand GD&T.
  • Strong machining fundamentals and inspection skills.
  • Experience using precision measuring equipment.
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Reliable attendance and a strong work ethic.

Experience That Will Help You Stand Out

  • Experience with both milling and turning operations.
  • Setup experience.
  • Basic CNC programming knowledge.
  • Multi-axis machining experience.
  • Aerospace, defense, or other precision manufacturing experience.
  • Wire EDM familiarity.
  • Experience helping train or mentor less experienced machinists.

What Success Looks Like

When first shift walks in the next morning...

The machines are ready.

The jobs are on schedule.

Quality issues have been addressed—not ignored.

The next team knows exactly where production stands.

Your shift didn't just make parts.

It kept the entire operation moving.

Why SMI?

We're looking for machinists who want more than someone handing them a work order.

We value people who think.

People who solve problems.

People who take ownership.

At SMI, you'll work alongside experienced professionals in a precision manufacturing environment where craftsmanship, accountability, and teamwork still matter.

If you've been looking for a place where your experience is trusted and your work makes a difference every shift, we'd like to meet you.

Compensation & Schedule

Starting at $18.00 per hour, with higher compensation available for candidates who bring exceptional machining experience, technical ability, and a proven track record of producing quality work.

Schedule: Monday–Thursday, 4:00 PM – 2:30 AM (4 x 10-hour shifts)

If you're ready to own your shift, solve problems, and build parts you can be proud of, we'd like to talk.
