Optical Sorting Operator

Job Description

This position is responsible for operating and maintaining the optical sorting equipment in order to meet customer specifications and our Quality Management System (QMS).

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

·         Responsible for the setup, loading, and operation of the sorting equipment

·         Upon completing setup, review with plant and/or quality supervisor for signoff confirmation

·         Inform plant supervisor and quality department of any issues or concerns in the product quality

·         Support plant supervision and quality department in performing product audits

·         Responsible for maintaining the equipment to support a clean environment and functional operation

·         Ability to perform basic equipment maintenance

·         Upon exit of the sorting equipment, properly pack and correctly identify/label product in required packaging

·         Move material finished goods as required (may require HiLo training certificate)

·         Work with entire AFS-US team to drive value and efficiencies in our processes and procedures

·         Make suggestions and assist in their development and implementation to improve production sorting

·         Must be able to work and communicate in a quality driven manufacturing environment

·         Perform the necessary safety requirements to avoid injury to self and fellow employees

·         Housekeeping – maintain a clean and safe working environment

·         Ensure preparation and implementation of the EHS policy is adhered to and followed

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

·         Visual Sorting Equipment experience; CCM preferred

·         Must be able to stand for 8 hours or more

·         Must be able to bend and kneel to complete tasks

·         Frequently lift up to 20 pounds and occasionally up to 40 pounds

·         Must be able to work on a computer and view fine details

Education and Experience:

·         Previous experience with programmable logic controllers (PLC) preferred

·         Microsoft Office software experience preferred

·         Managing vision system preferred

·         High School diploma or GED
